BoU Licenses Two New Commercial Banks
Bank of Uganda has issued operating licenses to two new commercial banks: NC Bank from Kenya and Bank of India. NC Bank from Kenya was licensed on February 15, 2012 and Bank of India, from India was given a license on March 22, 2012 to operate retail banking business in the country.
This brings the number of licensed commercial banks operating in the country to 25, from the 23. There are over 455 commercial bank branches across the country.
