Professor Joseph Stiglitz on Market Failures in the Financial System


    Developing countries must ensure that their financial systems serve their development agenda, Professor Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Laureate in Economics and Professor of Economics at Columbia University, has said. 

    “The Washington Consensus ideology has inflicted a high cost on developing countries, especially in Africa,” he observed.

     Professor Stiglitz made the remarks while presenting a paper on --Market Failures in the Financial System: Implications for Financial Sector Policies, Especially in Developing Countriesduring the 20th Joseph Mubiru Memorial Lecture at Speke Resort, Munyonyo.
     
    President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni graced the lecture for the first time and made a few remarks.
