Regional and International Initiatives

There is extensive international and regional cooperation between Uganda and other international organisations.

At a regional level, the Bank of Uganda together with the other central banks of East Africa are in the process of harmonising regional financial stability frameworks and other measures to ensure financial stability in the East African region. As a member of the COMESA Monetary Institute, Bank of Uganda is cooperating with COMESA central banks in order to strengthen financial system surveillance, supervisory and regulatory frameworks in the COMESA region.

Internationally, the Bank has received assistance and collaboration with international organisations to enhance capacity for financial stability analysis, conduct research and effect the amendment of laws that pertain to supervision and crisis management. The presence of foreign-owned banks in the Ugandan financial system has also made it imperative to exchange information with regulators in the home countries of these banks.
